Summer Staff

ALTO FRIO BAPTIST CAMP & CONFERENCE CENTER
SUMMER STAFF INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Alto Frio Summer Staff. This information is provided to give some idea of what you could expect on a good, easy day, if such a thing existed! The work at Alto Frio is unique. The person who is a successful staffer must have some special qualities. One must have a deep commitment to Jesus Christ. The work is hard, usually hot, and the hours long. There are times when the only thing that will keep you going is a real sense of dedication to the Master and the ability to see an eternal purpose through the ministry of Alto Frio.

The spirit of the staff sets the atmosphere for the campers. Serving at Alto Frio is a ministry, not just a job! The staffer must believe the task is worthy of the personal sacrifices, which will be required and be willing to make them.  Because of the nature of the job that we do, each staffer must be above reproach in everything that they do.  Simply stated this means that many youth and young children will be watching the Alto Frio Staff all of the time and we must be good examples. The specific guidelines are given during orientation; however, they include personal hygiene and appearance, personal relationships and behavior as well as duty expectations.

DUTIES: The workweek is usually Monday through Friday.  There may be a few weekends that you will be asked to work or volunteer.  The workday begins before breakfast, has various duties assigned throughout the day, and ends late in the evening with concession stand work. You will do everything from serving food in the dining, washing trays, cleaning dorms, lifeguarding, working the concession stand and gift shop.  If you are interested in lifeguarding, we will pay for your certification and it can be done here at the camp usually a week before camp starts.

HOUSING AND FOOD: As a part of your pay package housing and most meals are provided. You will need to furnish your own linens (twin size bedding), towels, pillows, and other personal items. You will be expected to cooperate to the fullest with staff cabin supervisors. There will be washers and dryers available for staff use. You will be responsible for your own meals when cafeteria is not open (usually Friday night through Sunday).

TRANSPORTATION: Staffers are responsible for their own transportation. Personal vehicles are not to be driven on the encampment grounds during any camp or retreat. After your arrival, the designated staff member must authorize any use of your vehicle.

PERSONAL BEHAVIOR: Staffers are encouraged to have a daily devotional. If you are on campus over the weekend and not on duty, you are expected to attend church services. You may attend any camp services you desire as time permits.  Staff members are not permitted to use any form of tobacco, drink alcoholic beverages or use drugs in any other form except under a doctor’s order. Staff members may have visitors who are not enrolled in camp by special permission of the administrator, with advance notice!  However, visitors are not permitted to stay overnight and must visit in the fellowship area of the staff cabin.

PRE EASTER RETREAT WEEKEND: The weekend of April 21-23 2011, is our annual Pre Easter retreat with anywhere from 1000 to 1200 youth on the camp.  We like to have all potential summer staffers work this weekend to get a taste of what the summer is going to be like.  It also gives our staff a chance to evaluate each person on a number of different things.  Please make plans to be there if you are considering serving this summer at Alto Frio.  You will be paid for your services over the weekend and you will receive housing and food.  Also note that the camp leaves on Saturday after lunch so you will have time to travel home for Easter on Sunday.
