What do I need to know about Summer Staff?

What will a normal day at the camp look like?

Each summer staff member not already on the Kitchen Team will work 1 meal per day on a rotating basis with other staff members. When you are on breakfast duty, you will have to rise early as most campers eat breakfast around 7:30-8:00 in the morning. Your duties during the day will vary depending on your specialty area, but this time will include such things as life-guarding, supervising camper activities, helping out on the ropes course, working in concessions or in the gift shop, or keeping the camp grounds clean. When possible, you may be allotted short periodic breaks during the day to rest. Campers generally eat dinner around 5:30, and the evening will see worship services (which you will be allowed to attend so long as any necessary jobs are done) and some time for kids to visit the concession stand. Once concessions is cleaned up, it will be time for bed. As soon as a group leaves, all summer staff members are expected to participate in cleaning the rooms in preparation for the next incoming group. Once the cleaning is finished and approved by a supervisor, you will be off duty.

What will my wages be?

New summer staff start out with a base rate of $225 per week. Lifeguards receive an additional $25 per week. Returning staff receive an additional $25 per week for each consecutive year they return. Each summer staff member also receives free housing for the entire summer, and meals at the cafeteria whenever there is a group in (which is generally every weekday). There will also be opportunities for bonuses.

What do I need to bring?

If you are hired, you will receive a detailed explanation of what items you should bring. In addition, there is a building where all staff can share a common living space with a flat-screen t.v. and dvd player, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a laundry room.

What if I need time off?

If you have something important that you know about ahead of time (a family event, a competition, etc.), let us know as much in advance as possible and we will try to work around it. More often than not, as long as it's reasonable, we can work it out. There is a section on the application for you to write in dates that you need off of work.

Anything else I need to know?

The only cell phone services that work out here are AT&T and T-Mobile. If you have any other carrier, you will have no service unless you drive into a larger town such as Uvalde or Kerrville.
